INDUSTRIES SERVED

Machine Shops

Allowing the water jet machines to save your tooling by profiling or roughing out your shapes with no heat-affected zone. Once again, the hazard of machining materials that produce harmful vapors can be removed from your shop. Water jet metal cutting of pre-hardened materials will eliminate secondary machining, heat treating and stress relieving operations. Eliminate cleanup and secondary operations from laser, flame-cut or plasma cut parts by abrasive waterjet cutting parts to size.

Architectural & Decorative Applications

Architectural and signage design firms can benefit from our waterjet cutting services, any contour with beautiful results. All we need is a CAD file to get started. Whatever your signage needs, you can rest easy knowing that our waterjet cutting service will reproduce the image with complete accuracy. Signs, logos, fonts, intricate cuts and curves…all of it will be cut to perfection. Our waterjet can cut materials for both indoor and outdoor applications, including marble, granite, tile, Corian, ornamental iron, brass, brushed or polished stainless steel.

Water Jet

High-pressure waterjet cutting systems can machine any known material including composite, laminates, plastics, rubbers, castings, forging, aluminum, stainless steels, hardened or tool steel, exotic alloys like Inconel, Hastelloy and titanium, heat-sensitive materials, synthetics that may release harmful vapors when cut using other methods, and most assuredly any future materials that technology could require and produce. Water jet cutting is so versatile there’s no doubt that the process will be suitable for use on any future materials that technology could require and produce. Most impressively, the water jet machines do this all without affecting the material properties or the temper. The absence of heat in an ultra-high-pressure waterjet machining is perfect for many applications. Water jet cutting material as soft as aluminum and hard materials like alumina ceramic, tungsten and other alloys are also possible.

Torched or Plasma Cut Parts

Do you have a material that cannot be burned, is too thick, or thin? Abrasive waterjet cutting is the answer. Steel Design Manufacturing can cut material as thin as 26 ga to solid steels as thick as 12″. Abrasive water jet cutting will eliminate the need for machining stock or slag caused by heat processes like laser, flame-cut or plasma cut parts. Near net shapes can be created to allow for a single milling finish pass.

Metal Stamping, Tool & Die Makers

Stamping short runs or prototypes can be costly for tool and die makers who rely on traditional methods. This is in addition to the extensive amount of time it takes to create and manufacture the dies themselves. Stamping houses can realize significant cost and time-savings by using waterjet cutting services to eliminate tooling costs and reduce the time that it takes to process short run items. Even pre-hard or difficult to stamp materials are no problem for abrasive waterjet cutting. Tool and die makers typically use wire EDM to produce stripper plates, which can also be time-consuming, and thus expensive. Precision waterjet cutting services can, again, save time and money in this application.

OUR WATERJET CAPABILITIES

Steel Design Manufacturing utilizes a CNC controlled 94,000 psi pump systems to cut all almost all known materials to our customers specifications. From large to small order quantities we are always ready to serve your needs.

The CNC waterjet process produces shapes within tolerances of +/- .005″ consistently with no process distortion or warping. No heat damage will occur to parts as the material is cut at room temperature and will have few, if any burrs.

Utilizing customer’s CAD file guarantees accuracy of parts produced. Acceptable CAD files for importing are DXF, DWG, Solid works, PDF and many other formats. Blueprint drawings of parts are no problem. Company logos and other artwork that is scanned can be manipulated to any size for maximum cutting efficiency.

Steel Design Manufacturing maintains a 2019 Flow waterjet has a cutting envelope of 128” wide x 236″ long x12” thick to handle your large shapes. Our twin 10-ton overhead cranes, fork trucks and lifting beams assist us in moving materials safely.

Cutting at an angle or beveling is possible as our Flow waterjet has a full 5-axis cutting head. Call us for more details on angle cutting. We can also supply the base materials for your orders.

We stock a large variety of materials to help expedite your orders. Heat/Lot certification as well as Material Test Reports are available for our entire inventory.
